Women Support Centers (530)
Women Support Center these are the branches of the Fund “Sukhumi” in Kutaisi, Tskaltubo, Khoni, Terjola, Senaki, Poti, Khurcha / Koki (Zugdidi Municipality), Lanchkhuti, Ozurgeti, created since 2009. The centers are designed to strengthen women, provide social, psychological, legal assistance to women - victims of violence and to crisis families in a difficult life situation. They promote to the protection of women's rights and ensure their socio-psychological rehabilitation.
A meeting with the heads of the regional drug treatment center was held within the framework of a small project of Poti Women Support Center. During a conversation about the dangers of drug addiction and alcoholism, it was noted that these problems concern the whole society, they cause health disease and pose a danger of violence. Experts noted that it is necessary to inform society and carry out preventive measures - with the inclusion and coordinated work of experts, psychiatrists, drug addicts, human rights defenders, clergymen, representatives of the government and non-governmental sectors.
Within the framework of the project "Nonviolent Environment for the Future Generation", a training was held for kindergarten parents "Domestic violence, ways and mechanisms of response". The format was online, but the work was quite active.
Interesting dynamics were observed in the activities of youth groups created within the framework of the project "Future without bullying". The activists held meetings with primary school students on the negative impact of bullying. Teachers were also included in the meetings.
Despite the difficult situation due to the pandemic, the project activities of the Senaki Support Center are proceeding as planned.
A general meeting of mobilizers was held online, which was attended by mobilizers and moderators of small projects from 11 Women Support Centers. At the beginning, the current work was summarized and the problems related to the epidemiological situation were discussed.
The focus was made on the Campaign of 16 Active Days against gender-based violence. The participants presented their plans, their activities in their municipalities. It was noted that such meetings are important in terms of sharing experiences, especially when working in such a stressful situation.
Women Support Centers of Kutaisi, Khoni, Tskaltubo and Ozurgeti held mobilization meetings. The beneficiaries received information on what should be done to prevent Covid 19, what are the existing mechanisms, how they should behave to respond to specific cases. They also talked about municipal services, especially in terms of violence prevention and victim protection. At the meetings, the issues for advocacy were raised and advocacy groups will began to work on them.
“Women's rights - freedom” - activities continue within the framework of Poti Women Support Center project. This time, a meeting was held with the leaders of Health and Social Protection Service of the municipality. Particular emphasis was placed on strengthening cooperation between the civil sector and local authorities - to prevent violence. It was noted that the statistics of violence against women is growing, and target groups need information and the availability of public services. Carrying out preventive measures is possible through the coordinated work of government and non-government structures. At the end of the meeting, the participants were given newspapers covering the activities of Poti Women Support Center.
Due to the pandemic, a small project of Kobuleti Women Support Center "Harmonious Environment for Kids" continues online. Online informational meetings were held with the parents of target kindergarten children. The meetings were attended by a lawyer and psychologist of the Fund "Sukhumi". They introduced the participants to information about domestic violence, response mechanisms and the negative impact of violence on children. The meeting was held in the mode of questions and answers. Participants also received information on regulations related to COVID-19 and managing stress in a difficult situation.
“For a Healthy Generation” - a project of Pakhulani Women Support Center (Tsalenjikha Municipality) addresses the problem of domestic violence and bullying. According to the project, an on-line informational meeting with the school teachers was held. A lawyer and a psychologist attended the meeting. They talked about teenagers who are in a difficult situation. It was noted how important it is to identify such facts and respond in a timely manner, so that the violence does not leave an irreparable mark on the child. The participants were also given information about municipal services of the local budget and regulations developed for the prevention of COVID-19.
The Khurcha / Koki Women's Support Center (Zugdidi municipality) is working on two projects.
In the framework of the project "Protect ourselves from bullying", an online meeting was held with the involvement of a lawyer and a psychologist in the village Koki. The meeting participants - parents and teachers received information on how bullying negatively affects the psychology of a teenager. The emphasis was on cyber bullying and the importance of detecting it, as well as mechanisms that will help in responding to specific facts.
The second small project "Break the silence, overcome the violence" is being implemented in the village Khurcha. An informational meeting was held with the beneficiaries and the participants were given information about the mechanisms by which they can identify the facts of violence and achieve timely prevention.
Two projects are being implemented in Senaki Women Support Center. An online information meeting was held with the parents of pupils of target kindergartens. The lawyer of the Fund “Sukhumi” talked with them about responding to the facts of domestic violence, about the regulations related to COVID-19. The psychologist gave advice on managing stress.
With the involvement of a psychologist, a meeting was also held with students from the village Nosiri on the topic of bullying. The conversation touched the impact of bullying on adolescents, as well as response mechanisms. In the framework of the project, a youth group was created, and one of the group's activists held a meeting with primary school students on bullying.
Office computer programs, preparation of presentations, working on the Internet, searching for information, qualified work with e-mail - these questions were studied by one group of women in the Day Center of the Fund "Sukhumi".
At the end of the courses, the participants noted that this was a practical and necessary work that would help them in employment. This is one of the goals of the courses.
