Meetings and trainings were held with members of the Gender Equality Council, letters of recommendation were sent.
On November 25, 2020, the Gender Equality Council of Kobuleti Municipality addressed the Mayor with a letter of recommendation to include the necessary activities regarding assistance to violence victims / victims of domestic violence and violence prevention in 2021 budget.
This is today's requirement:
In 2017, Georgia ratified the Convention of European Council on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul Convention) - a number of legislative acts, including the Code of Self-Government, were amended, according to which, “the municipality is authorized to implement activities aimed at promotion of gender equality, prevention of violence against women / domestic violence, protection of women victims of violence / domestic violence and their assistance”.
The first result of cooperation has already been received:
For the first time in the history of the Kobuleti municipality, a woman victim of violence addressed the local self-government for help. Her needs are being assessed now.
Assistance to victims of violence, provision of rent for accommodation, which has been operating in many municipalities for a long time, does not yet have the form of a program in Kobuleti, but the Gender Equality Council received a firm proposal from the Mayor of the municipality to use the resources of the reserve fund in an appropriate form.
We hope that the implementation of the program will be taken into account when planning the 2022 budget, and this will significantly improve the situation of women - victims of violence.
The project is implemented with the support of the organization Brot
