Training for medical staff

30 medical workers (from Kutaisi, Tskaltubo, Senaki, Chokhatauri, Terjola, Samtredia municipalities) attended the training, which was held in Tskaltubo.

The topic of the training was “The role of medical staff in violence prevention and victim protection”. Using a variety of methods, participants discussed the different issues, including: violence against women and children, the Istanbul Convention, referral mechanisms, victim identification groups...

According to them, this work is relevant and necessary:

“For me, as a doctor, the training was interesting. The information received, the interesting methods and the environment were productive"...

“The training format allowed us to talk about the reasons of the problem, to analyze when we behave correctly and incorrectly. It is necessary for medical staff to understand their direct responsibility".

Training for teachers in Kutaisi

Training for teachers was held at the Hotel “West Tower Kutaisi”. Gender, gender-based violence, violence identification, communication with a child and referral stages, legal mechanisms and the role of teachers in violence prevention, international documents - these issues were discussed at the training. Participants represented 9 municipalities (Senaki, Terjola, Samtredia, Kutaisi, Tskaltubo, Khoni, Zugdidi, Khobi, Vani).

Participants were actively involved in training process, in discussions, and shared their experiences with each other. They were given a practical manual developed for teachers - available on the website of the Women Fund “Sukhumi”:

According to the participants, the training will help destroy gender stereotypes and prevent violence through early identification and intervention mechanisms. They will introduce gender approaches in schools and will actively participate in the process of identifying cases of violence.

Support for starting own business

A two-day training on business and entrepreneurship, business ideas and business planning was held for Kutaisi group of the Day Rehabilitation Center at the office of the Women Fund “Sukhumi”. Participants received qualified consultation on the features of the product/service and pricing, which is important information for developing own business.

Feedback from training participants:

“I learned how to write a business plan in order to move forward on my own”.

“I was praised and I have a feeling that my idea will win because it is new for the society.”

“I learned how to set a budget and how to advertise in order to achieve success in sales.”

The training is a good support for starting own business and will help participants to better prepare for the grant competition of the Fund “Sukhumi”.

Cycle of trainings in Tsalenjikha

This year, like previous one, Tsalenjikha municipality has actively participated in the international campaign against gender-based violence.

The Women Fund “Sukhumi”, in collaboration with the Gender Equality Council of the municipality, conducted four trainings for kindergarten staff on the topic “Gender, gender stereotypes, gender-based violence.”

The essence of gender, stereotypes that we hear from an early age, gender imbalance that causes violence and ways to eradicate violence - these issues were discussed with the participants by the trainers: Larisa Shengelia, Khatuna Gogua, Anzhela Chikhladze and Lali Shengelia.

The training cycle was active, interesting and productive.

Training on “The importance of Gender Impact Assessment (GIA) of local political documents and gender budget for inclusive, equal and fair local governance” was held on November 4-6 in Borjomi, at “Borjomi Palace Hotel”. The training was attended by representatives of local self-government of seven municipalities of Western Georgia: Senaki, Zugdidi, Terjola, Tsalenjikha, Kobuleti, Chokhatauri, Khobi. Also - representatives of the regional administrations of Imereti and Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti.

Participants were informed about the methodology of Gender Impact Assessment (GIA). They got acquainted with the materials of international practice of gender budgeting, achievements and challenges. It was determined how to conduct gender analysis, sectoral distribution in the budgeting process, and assessment of the gender impact of local policy documents.

Participants represented 6 municipalities (Chokhatauri, Vani, Khoni, Zugdidi, Tskaltubo and Bagdati). They actively participated in the work process, discussions and shared their experiences with each other.

It was noted that the training participants will introduce gender approaches into their schools and will contribute to the destruction of stereotypes and the prevention of violence.

The training in Kutaisi was attended by 15 participants from Khoni, Tsalenjikha, Senaki, Chokhatauri and Zugdidi municipalities.

“The role of medical staff in violence prevention and victims protection” - this was the topic of the training, and together with the trainers, the participants actively discussed issues related to violence against women and children...

The training was held within the framework of the project "Digital Resource Center of Services for Violence Victims”.

At the meeting, the participants were also informed about the practical guide/toolkit: "Preventing and responding to gender-based violence in war and post-war settings - experiences and recommendations of women's NGOs", which was developed by the WAVE Network in collaboration with its four WAVE members in 2022 by the support of the OSCE. The Toolkit describes best practices and the strategies employed by the women's NGOs to prevent and respond to gender-based violence in different phases of conflict.

  • Strategies during Wartime and emergency response settings were shared by Ukrainian and Armenian partners Sexual Assault Crisis Center (Yerevan, Armenia), Centre “Women’s Perspectives” (Lviv, Ukraine);
  • Strategies during Protracted conflict were described by the Women's Foundation "Sukhumi" (Kutaisi, Tbilisi, Georgia);
  • Strategies during Post-war and long-term perspective were based on the experience of the Bosnia-Herzegovina partner. Foundation United Women Banja Luka (Banja Luka, Bosnia & Herzegovina)

A two-day training for medical personnel was held at the office of the Women Fund "Sukhumi". The training was attended by 15 participants from Tskaltubo, Tkibuli, Vani, Terjola and Samtredia municipalities.

The topic of the training was “The role of medical personnel in violence prevention and victim protection”Following issues were discussed during the training: violence against women and children, the Istanbul Convention, referral mechanisms, victim identification groups.

According to the participants, this work is actual and necessary:

“We talked about what are the resources of doctors for identification of violence and we will definitely use these methods into practice”.

“At first, we discussed the reasons of the problem, when we do the right thing and when we do it wrong. The doctor has a great responsibility in terms of eradicating domestic violence, but many specialists do not know about it”.
