Meetings - in this category there is an information about meetings in frames of Fund “Sukhumi” projects - meetings with beneficiaries, representatives of state structures, local and international non-governmental organizations.

 

On February 15 a meeting was held in one of Kutaisi collective centers, where the participants were given information regarding a law on IDPs. The meeting summarized all problems, related to IDPs. For solution of the problems of one woman, who is sick and cannot move independently, a statement was prepared and sent to the Ministry of refugees and accommodation.

The members of the Fund "Sukhumi" and Batumi Gender Advisory Council (GAC) met the members of the Council for Gender Equality of the Supreme Council of Adjarian Autonomous Republic. Representatives of Fund "Sukhumi" told about the activities of the organization in terms of gender perspectives, the projects that were implemented by the GAC with the help of the fund "Sukhumi" and the local government.

During the meeting there were named the results that speak about the effectiveness of the GAC work. Attention was paid to the research, work with the youth, action plan that the GAC will present to self-government as a recommendation document.

What is the strategy of Adjarian Supreme Council on the implementation of the gender policy, how importance is the cooperation with NGOs - Medea Vasadze - deputy chairman of the Council for Gender Equality spoke about it.

It was said that it would be useful to design a memorandum on joint activities. The meeting was by TV company "Adjara".

          

Review of changes in the law against violence, the role of local government in the prevention of violence and assistance of victims - these issues were discussed at a network meeting in Kutaisi, in the hotel "Riverside". The event was attended by members of the Gender Advisory Council (GAC), Kutaisi, Senaki, Ozurgeti and Batumi, as well as deputies of the City Council, representatives of the local administration and the City Hall.

Invited expert spoke about the changes in the law against violence, relating to the powers of local government.

What is the role of local government in the prevention of violence and assistance to the victim - in this regard groups developed suggestions recommendations.

According to participants, the meeting was informative and productive, and they have developed recommendations contributing to effective work for the prevention of violence and assistance of victims.

On January 29 there was held a presentation of the publication “Evaluation of women human security level in Western Georgia”, elaborated by the research results in frames of Georgian – Abkhazian project under the support of Swedish women fund Kvinna Till Kvinna.

The presentation was attended by representatives of society, NGOs and governmental structures, who received information regarding conducted research and recommendations, developed as a result of the research.

Meeting participants mentioned that this is a good attempt to refine state policy regarding the issues of women human security and to put forward the needs of women.

Members of Kutaisi Gender Advisory Council (GAC) gathered at ordinary meeting. In the first part the members heard information regarding segments, which are part of the project together with the GAC: cooperation with the media, work of the Club of Voter Women, legal informational-consultative meetings. Participants mentioned that gender changers became possible by coordinative work of all segments.

After that they actively discussed action plan for 2016-2017 for the activities against violence regarding women and domestic violence, also victims’ assistance. They discussed recommendations and suggestions, which can be implemented at local level for the assistance of the victims.

Starting from January, 6 information meetings with representatives of local government in the 6 cities of Western Georgia were held in Kutaisi, Tskhaltubo, Khoni, Senaki, Poti, Zugdidi. They were provided with information about the work of the Women's Support Centers, future plans.

Mobilizers and activists of the Women's Support Centers visited Sakrebulo meeting, met with innovations, initiatives of local government.

Representatives of Senaki Women's Support Center were invited to the meeting, initiated by the Governor with civil advisers. They also presented at the presentation of the environmental project, which was held in Senaki Municipal Gamgeoba.

Mobilization meetings

  

After New Year days, mobilizers of the Women Support Centers conducted 33 mobilization meetings in towns and villages with the IDPs and local population.

The meetings discussed changes in law against violence, under which it is foreseen to raise the role of local self-government in terms of prevention of domestic violence.

The first meeting in 2016 of Senaki Gender Advisory Council was held in January 22. The members of the GAC discussed the Action Plan for 2016-2017 years for combating violence against women and domestic violence victims protection. In particular, those points of the plan, which relate directly to local authorities, and proposed to make certain amendments.

They also actively discussed the new project ideas, with greater emphasis on the villages of Senaki municipality. Already in February, the trainings are planned for representatives of Gamgebeli in villages and rural deputies on the topic of gender and gender-based violence.

On January 22, informational meetings was held in the military settlement of Senaki, together with the IDPs there live local too. The meeting participants know the fund “Sukhumi”, but their interest was paid to information about active work of Senaki Gender Advisory Council (GAC), especially to the fact that in 2016 municipal budget, there are envisaged recommendations, submitted by the GAC.

The IDPs spoke about their problems (illegal living spaces, gasification, cellars).

It was solved that the lawyer of the fund “Sukhumi” will be involved in advocacy for fast solution of the problem.

Ozurgeti Historical Museum hosted an informational meeting, which participants got acquainted with the work of the Fund "Sukhumi" in Ozurgeti, Implemented by Gender Advisory Council and the Club of Women Voters. They learned about the gender policy, which was approved in the new city budget and the municipality.

The first responses were made to the program for people with hepatitis "C" and cancer patients. More detailed information will be given to all interested persons through the social service.

It was planned a visit of the lawyer of Fund "Sukhumi”, which will help the museum staff in advocacy of the issue related to the rehabilitation of the building.
